The BAFTA 2022 TV Awards, the biggest evening for small screens in the UK, kicked off at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
The ceremony – again led by Richard Ayoade – marks a return to a completely personal event, with a red carpet and an audience, after two years of mostly virtual or hybrid pandemic awards. In a somewhat unusual turn of events, British time lit up the charm, London experienced one of the warmest days of the year so far.
Entering the awards ceremony, Russell T. Davies’ acclaimed series on the British AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, It is a sinled a group with six nominations (five in performance categories), while other multi-nomination shows include Landscapes and We Are Lady Parts. Meanwhile, Kate Winslet gets her first BAFTA TV nomination for her starring role Mare from Easttown. But much of the interest on the red carpet is likely to be around Ncuti Gatwa, nominated for a male performance in a comedy program for Sex education but also appointed the next Doctor Who just hours before the ceremony began.
At the BAFTA TV Craft Awards, which is celebrated behind camera talent and held on April 24, Landscapes and We Are Lady Parts both won three awards each.
