Welcome to last week’s WPIAL baseball and softball regular season.

Since time is not an issue, several district baseball teams are hoping to win Monday to join the long list of schools that have qualified for the WPIAL 2022 baseball playoffs.

* Kiski Area can win a place in the playoffs by winning the Franklin Regional. If the Cavaliers win, all six teams in Section 1-5A will qualify for the postseason.

* Quaker Valley can win a place in Section 2-4A with a home win over Ambridge. If the Bridgers beat the Quakers, the two will meet for a place in the playoffs on Tuesday at Ambridge.

* Blackhawk can win a place in Section 2-4A by defeating New Castle on Monday. The red hurricane is barely alive. The defenders of the Class 4A champions are due to clean up the Cougars on Monday and Tuesday.

* Elizabeth Forward can earn a place in the postseason outside of Section 3-4A by winning at home over Belle Vernon. Both Belle Vernon and Ringgold must win on Monday to stay alive. Aries visit West Mifflin.

* Charleroi can enter five of the six teams from Section 4-3A in the postseason if they win at Yough.

* Jeannette wins a place at Northgate to win a place in the season outside of Section 3-2A.

* Chartiers-Houston will win a place in the 4-2A Division with a home win against Carlynton. Brentwood need two Chartiers-Houston defeats on Monday and Tuesday and two wins over Seton La Salle to reach the offseason.

Softball on a balloon

Several WPIAL softball teams have been on a bubble between the included and eliminated since this last week.

Here are Monday’s playoff games:

* Norwin needs two-level help to cope in section 2-6A. First, on Monday, the Knights need to beat Butler and make North Allegheny lose to Hempfield. Then, the Knights must beat North Allegheny on Tuesday.

* New Castle may be put in a position to be put in a position to beat Hopewell away with some help from Section 3-4A.

* Rochester can win a place in the playoffs of Section 1-A with a single win when fighting Cornell in the doubles.

Final four services

The tennis playoffs for the WPIAL boys start on Monday in the semifinals in class 3A and 2A.

In Class 3A, it’s the rematch of the 2021 Championship game when top holder Franklin Regional fights defending the Shady Side Academy title at Norwin High School.

Last spring, the Bulldogs defeated the Panthers 3-2 and won the seventh school tennis crown.

In the second semifinal match, the 2nd seed Mt. Lebanon and 6th Fox Chapel holder at North Allegheny High School.

In 2A, the best holder and defender of the Quaker Valley title plays against Central Valley. The Quakers have yet to lose a set in their first two wins.

The match will be played on the courts of Sewickley Academy Nichols Courts.

Northern neighbors North Catholic and Mars will fight in the second final four match at Pine-Richland High School.

All four games are scheduled for 3 p.m.

The top two teams in 3A qualify for the PIAA playoffs. Class 2A will send the first three teams.

Consolation and championship games are scheduled for Wednesday in Washington & Jefferson.
