No. 7. Men’s tennis from Virginia beat VCU 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships on Sunday at Boar’s Head Sports Club.
In the doubles, Ryan Goetz and Inaki Montes defeated Inigo Torre Martin of the VCU and Rayana Stable without relegation, then Bar Botzer and Chris Rodesch defeated brothers Charles and Maxence Bertimon 6-4 and secured a doubles point for Virginia.
Number 30 Chris Rodesch won 6-2, 6-2 over 90. Charles Bertimon on the field, and number 39 Inaki Montes defeated Maxence Bertimon 6-4, 6-3 on field 2 and thus gave the Cavaliers an advantage. Advantage 3- 0.
On the 5th court Gianni Ross won in two tough sets against Rayana Stable 6-4, 7-5 and won the victory of Virginia.
For the 16th time in their last 17 appearances in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships, the Cavaliers advance to the quarterfinals of the Super Regional. Virginia (24-5) will face 10th seed South Carolina (23-6) next weekend at Boar’s Go to Charlottesville. The exact date and time of the game will be announced soon by the NCAA.
