The official Twitter account for the CBS show announced on Monday: “Stephen has symptoms that are consistent with the re-emergence of COVID. Due to the abundance of caution for his staff, guests and audience, he will be in isolation for a few more days. The Late Show will not be filming new episodes until further notice. ”

Colbert was first positive for the virus on April 21 and had to cancel his upcoming episode. “Basically, I feel good – I’m grateful to have been expelled and strengthened,” he wrote on social media at the time. A few days later, he informed viewers that his symptoms included a “serious cold” and that his experience with the virus was “not fun”.
A few days later, Colbert’s band leader Jon Batiste was positive and absent Late show and had to cancel the prime minister American Symphony at Carnegie Hall.
Additional late-night hosts who have recently been positive for the virus are James Corden, Seth Meyers and Jimmy Kimmel, who hired Mike Birbiglia to replace him as he recovered. Today Co-host Savannah Guthrie was positive for the second time on Friday and had to isolate herself over the weekend for Mother’s Day.
