Fritz Hager and Noah Thompson was positive for coronavirus on the eve of the May 8 episode American idol. Host Ryan Seacrest he announced at the beginning of the episode. He explained that Noah was starting to feel bad at the beginning of the week and that he would be performing practically from his hotel room. Fritz’s symptoms started closer to the live show, so his rehearsal footage had to be used for his two performances.

Noah and Fritz were among the top seven in the 20th season of the series. All seven artists had to perform twice during Mother’s Day episode, which would end with two eliminated and only five moving on. The first performances of the evening were viral TikTok songs, and the second songs were dedicated to the mothers of the singers.

All season Noah and Fritz win over referees and fans. Viewers have been voting for them week after week since the live shows began. The other five contestants who stayed on the show are HunterGirl, Leah Marlene, Jay Copeland, Christian Guardino and Nicolina. All five were free of COVID-19 and were able to perform live as planned. The group was mentored će.ja.sam this week.

Fritz chose to sing the original song for his viral TikTok song. Although it was only a rehearsal recording, he still impressed the judges with his performance. Fritz played electric guitar while singing with the band. Although Fritz was not there in person to see it, all three judges gave him a standing ovation. He responded with a video call and said he felt “good” but was ready to return to the stage.

“I’m literally just lying in bed and sleeping,” Fritz laughed. “I’m literally out all day.” Luckily, he seems to be recovering, and if he is voted on, hopefully he will be back on stage next week
