Minnie Driver asked to play an orgasm at the audition

– I wanted to tell them we’re better than this.

Minnie has new memoirs, Managing expectationsand in it (via The Times) he recalls an early moment in his career when the casting director made an inappropriate request on set.

Minnie recalls she was auditioning for a TV chocolate commercial when the casting director asked her if she had seen the infamous scene in When Harry met Sally, where Meg Ryan plays an orgasm in a restaurant.

“You know the scene where he plays orgasm?” he asked, “Eat a piece of chocolate and do it … Unless you want to be right.”

“I thought about all the girls waiting outside,” she recalled. “We’re all fighting for an opportunity that was actually humiliation dressed in pick-me! Outfit. I wanted to run there and warn them.”

Minnie also noted that the director had asked her several times to fake an orgasm, and that the chocolate had a “disgusting” taste – prompting her to lower her leg. “I don’t think I’ll be able to do it again … because I’ll throw up,” she said.

According to Minnie, the casting director – whom she called “Scorsleazy”, a play on words by director Martin Scorsese – replied: “Well, all the other girls obviously enjoyed this very much.”
