Listen to Kendrick Lamar’s new single “The Heart Part 5”

Kendrick Lamar shared a new single and music video ahead of the release of the upcoming album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, scheduled for May 13th. The song is based on Marvin Gaye’s 1976 single “I Want You,” and Lamar continues where he left off on “The Heart Part 4” of 2017. The latest single is the fifth installment of Kendrick’s series, and all preceded the release of a new album.

The music video for the song was directed by Lamar and his frequent collaborator Dave Free, who is also Lamar’s partner in his new agency PgLang. The video shows Kendrick turning into a variety of digitally produced “deep fake” celebrities, from Kanye West to Will Smith, to the late Nipsey Hussle. Thanks to the video, Irish video game developers Deep Voodoo are behind the movie magic of the music video.

The video also includes “special thanks” to South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Deadline reported in January that Lamar was working on a live production with the two. It’s just one of many projects Kendrick has been involved in over the five years since the release of his previous album DAMNED. Earlier this year, Lamar performed at the Super Bowl with Dr. Dre, Eminem and Snoop Dogg.

Lamar’s introduction so far has been quite technically grounded. Last month, it announced a new release through its new Oklama website. Lamar used the same website last August to share a note announcing this Mr. Morale & The Big steppers it would be his last release on TDE.

“May the Almighty continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for sincere creators. As I continue to follow my life’s calling, “he wrote. “There is beauty in the end. And always faith in the unknown. ”
