At the Vision event on May 10, Intel will unveil its latest series of processors codenamed Alder Lake-HX. The series will become the first mobile line with 16 cores.

Intel will put full silicon for Alder Lake desktops on the BGA package. One of the slides confirms that the BGA package will have the same size as the LGA for the desktop (45 x 37.5 mm), the only difference being the height, reduced from 4.4 mm to 2.0 mm.

But the Alder Lake-HX is much more. This is a new class of 55W ‘enthusiasts’ CPUs to be offered for high-end gaming and workstation systems. It will have an increase in the number of cores, more power and more PCIe tapes.

And speaking of PCI Express, the Alder Lake-HX is the first PCIe Gen5-enabled laptop platform. Furthermore, it has a total of 48 PCIe strips (Gen5 x16 + Gen4 x20 + Gen3 x 12). This is an increase over Alder Lake-H (Gen4 x16 + Gen3 x12).

Alder Lake-HX is all about overclocking. It supports DDR5 with XMP 3.0 profiles and a new feature called Dynamic Memory Boost. Furthermore, the series supports Efficient-core overclocking, an updated Intel Speed ​​Optimizer and Extreme Tuning Utility. More importantly, Intel claims that all HX SKUs support overclocking.

The specifications of the series have not changed in relation to the rumors. We are looking at 16 cores that increase the clock speed to 5.0 GHz for at least two SKUs. All HX CPUs come with the same base power of 55 W and an increase in power limit to 157 W, which is an increase of 42 W compared to the Alder Lake-H series.

Furthermore, since the new CPUs are based on desktop silicon, the number of GPU cores has been reduced to 32 or 16 depending on the variant. We are not aware of any system that would contain only HX CPUs, because all gaming laptops with these CPUs should have a dedicated GPU.
