HBO has released the first teaser for the upcoming fourth season of “Westworld,” revealing footage of the next installment of the sci-fi series.
HBO has planned to release the trailer as an Easter egg that fans will discover. The teaser appeared online to everyone on Monday night.
Critically titled “It Doesn’t Look Like Anything to Me,” the teaser unfolds in the rhythm of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day,” perhaps ironically hinting at a not-so-perfect torment for his android lineup with existential challenges. The teaser offers insight into the characters that Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, Aaron Paul and Angela Sarafyan will play in the upcoming season.
The teaser has no dialogue, instead unfolding as a series of typically slanted, intoxicating sci-fi images, showing a dystopian version of New York, smoke-emitting devices, people waltzing in the streets, and flies. Lots of flies. HBO describes the upcoming season as a “dark odyssey about the fate of reasonable life on earth.”
“Westworld” was last seen on HBO more than two years ago, and the third season ended in May 2020.
The teaser ends with the unveiling of the date of the premiere of the fourth season. “Westworld” will debut in the first season of eight episodes on HBO and HBO Max on June 26.
“Westworld” comes from Kilter Films and Bad Robot Productions in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy created the sci-fi series. The couple also serves as executive producers alongside Alison Schapker, Denise Thé, JJ Abrams, Athena Wickham, Richard J. Lewis and Ben Stephenson.
