Jennifer Gray recalled a 1987 car accident in which she and Matthew Broderick were involved in which two women were killed.
Gray, 62, spoke about the incident in an interview with Entertainment Tonight’s Paige Gawley released Thursday after the release of her new memoir “Out of the Corner”. In her memoirs, she wrote that the car accident happened a few weeks before the premiere of “Dirty Dancing” while the couple was driving around Ireland together.
“The car accident in Ireland was, I would say, the three biggest traumas of my life, perhaps the first,” Gray told ET. “It’s very hard to describe when you have a near-death experience and are present because of other people’s deaths. Being alone on a country road in the middle of nowhere with no one else nearby or conscious was pretty intimidating.”
Gray went on to say that the car accident triggered “so many other things” in her life.
“I was the only living witness because Matthew survived, but he was unconscious and had amnesia and was very badly injured. I thought he was dead,” Gray told ET, adding that she did not initially realize there were any deaths. cases.
“I didn’t even know there were two other women who tragically died at the time. It’s just something you just don’t come back from the same way,” Gray said.
Gray also defended Broderick, who was driving the vehicle, adding that they were sober at the time of the crash.
“I didn’t have any information that people think I did because they wanted an answer, and there was no answer because it was an accident,” Gray told the release. “AND [Broderick] he was a great driver and no one drank. It was just an accident. And it was tragic, and I’m constantly thinking about family in Ireland. ”
Gray and Broderick broke up in 1988, Us Magazine reported.
After breaking up with Broderick, Gray dated and got engaged to Johnny Depp the same year before breaking up nine months later.
“It was a little hot. It was a fucking bonfire,” Gray told People. “It was literally like, ‘Are you kidding me? You’re kidding me? I’ve never seen a guy like this.'”
She recently spoke about Depp’s defamation trial against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, in an interview with ET.
“All I can say about that trial is that it breaks my heart for everyone involved,” Gray told ET. “I just think it’s sad and I wish it was resolved and I just wish everyone well.”
