Erling Haaland near Manchester City’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund | Football news

Erling Haaland is close to moving to Manchester City.

According to Sky Germany, the striker informed Borussia Dortmund that he would leave the club at the end of the season. The release clause of his contract is 75m euros.

Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano last week informed Dortmund boss Hans-Joachim Watzke that City were ready to activate the striker’s release clause.

The clause stipulates that Haaland’s transfer fee will have to be paid in a single payment, unlike many other top-notch transfers that occur in several installments.

Some details for the deal, which is expected to be announced later this week, still need to be finalized.

Erling Haaland won the Bundesliga, becoming the mascot of Borussia Dortmund since his debut in 2020.

Haaland have scored 85 goals for Dortmund in 88 games since joining RB Salzburg in January 2020. Dortmund’s last game of the season is played on Saturday – at home against Hertha Berlin.

Pep Guardiola’s team is leading in the race to sign the 21-year-old, and his dismissal clause means Borussia Dortmund have come to terms with losing the striker this summer. The € 75 million fee – equivalent to £ 62 million – for Haaland is thought to be below market value.

Asked about the club’s interest in the Norwegian last month, Guardiola said: “[I have] there is no answer to your question.

“I don’t have any worries or work in my head right now to think about what’s going to happen at this club next season.”

City have often played without a recognized striker this season after leaving club record holder Sergio Aguero at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Asked if his team needs number nine, Guardiola said: “We are playing with good strikers this season, so I don’t know what will happen in the future. Next season is, so I won’t talk [about it]. “

Dortmund will replace Haaland with Adeyemi

Dortmund should sign Red Bull Salzburg striker Karim Adeymi as a replacement for Haaland.

The 20-year-old has scored 23 goals in 42 games this season and added eight assists.
