Sure, there’s a seven-year difference between the Ferrari 458 Speciale and the Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stingray, but as this video shows, the two mid-engined supercars are very well matched.
It’s no secret that the 458 was the target of the C8 Corvette, so much so that Chevy engineers compared the new Z06 to a Ferrari. Wanting to see how the two of them behave against each other, CarWow tested them side by side in several races with resistance at the start, race races and braking test.

In the first race between the two, the C8 Corvette gets a far better launch, sprinting off the line and leaving Ferrari behind. However, as the 4.5-liter 458 V8 pumps out 605 hp and 398 lb-ft (540 Nm) compared to the 482 hp and 452 lb-ft (613 Nm) Corvette from the UK, Ferrari is starting to close the gap, but they can’t do it fast enough before they cross a quarter mile.
The second race is more representative because the 458 Speciale was well launched and while the Corvette jumped off the line, it couldn’t keep Ferrari. It’s a very similar story in the third and final race where Chevy gets a better launch but can’t keep up with the speeds as they increase. Ferrari eventually covered a quarter mile in 11.7 seconds compared to the 11.8 seconds it took the Corvette.
When it comes to racing, the two of them proved to be remarkably well-matched, mainly because the Ferrari gearbox didn’t change gears automatically and got stuck in fifth. However, with cars in manual gearshift modes, Ferrari easily left the Corvette and took an easy win.
