But the real risk is Apple’s decision to introduce a greater separation between Pro and non-Pro models by effectively stagnating the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max this year.

Breaking the tradition, Apple will give both models last year’s A15 chipset (also used in the $ 429 iPhone SE), last year’s cameras, 60Hz re-displays and a visually identical design. Aside from the screen size of the iPhone 14 Max, it will be difficult to distinguish the standard iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models. They just don’t shout upgrade, especially at higher prices.

My personal feeling is that customer demand for larger screens will mean that the iPhone 14 Max is selling well, but the demand for all other models is far less clear. Economic circumstances are a factor beyond Apple’s control, but forced price increases could not have come at a worse time for the iPhone 14’s risky strategy.
