There are many ways to support Ukraine against Russian aggression.
You can buy sunflower artwork at a restaurant in Redmond, and all proceeds will be donated to Ukrainian aid efforts.
Sunflower artwork adorns the walls of One Street Down Cafe in Redmond.
All donated works of art on the theme of sunflowers, ranging from watercolors through drawings to photographs, are for sale, and all proceeds are intended to help Ukraine recover from the devastation of war.
“We’re so blessed here and it’s so hard for them there,” said Kristy Cross, owner of One Street Down Cafe. “I am just trying to find a way to help. This is the small way we came. “
Sunflower-themed artwork ranges from $ 45 to $ 300.
Five pieces have been sold since the exhibition was launched.
The exhibition will last at least two months.
“The reason for sunflower is in the 1800s, sunflower was exported from the US to Ukraine. The climate is suitable. They are flourishing and have become an industry in Ukraine, ”said Gillian Burton, curator of volunteers. “They sell not only sunflower oil, but also seeds. So it was a devastation for their economy other than anything else. ”
Burton said that the idea for raising funds for the art of sunflower came from a viral video of a Ukrainian woman giving sunflower seeds to advancing Russian soldiers.
“She said‘ if and when you die and when we bury you on Ukrainian soil, you will sprout sunflowers ’, which is pretty sad to say, but they are very resilient people,” he said.
The goal is to raise $ 10,000 by selling sunflower artwork.
The funds will be directed through the American Red Cross to help Ukraine.
